Mattia Zaccagni had seemed to be on his way out, but now Hellas Verona are offering a new contract.

The 26-year-old creative midfielder’s current deal only runs to the end of this season and he had been on the market.

However, although there was some interest from clubs including Fiorentina, Milan, Napoli, Lazio and Roma, nobody ultimately made a firm proposal.

According to Sky Sport Italia, new coach Eusebio Di Francesco wants to build the Verona team around Zaccagni.

The club is therefore ready to offer a new contract extension to continue the lifelong union with Hellas.

Zaccagni came up through their youth academy, going on loan to Venezia and Cittadella, but a stable figure at the Stadio Bentegodi since 2016.

He scored five goals and provided seven assists in 36 Serie A appearances last season.
