Fiorentina’s Borja Valero has set his sights on the Viola achieving Champions League qualification this season.

Vincenzo Montella’s side finished fourth in last season’s Serie A table, 13 points short of Napoli in third.

However, during an interview with Goal.com, the Spaniard maintained he is optimistic about the year ahead.

“Next season? We’ll start as we have done in recent years, with our eyes on Europe,” Valero stated.

“We will try to go as far as we can in the cup and try to get into the Champions League. That would be very important for us.

“Getting into the Champions League will not be easy because there are other rivals like Roma, Napoli, Inter and Milan.”

Valero also passed comment on the future of teammate Juan Cuadrado, admitting he has no idea whether the Colombian will stay at the Artemio Franchi or not.

“We don’t know whether he will stay or leave, we haven’t spoken about it between us. I hope for the good of the team that he stays because he is one of the best players we have.

“All I can do is wish him all the best, whether that be with us or elsewhere.”
