Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno tried everything to get himself booked against Udinese so he’d be safe for the derby with Juventus, but the referee saw straight through him.

The centre-back is one yellow card away from suspension in Serie A and was therefore hoping to get booked today, allowing him to miss the next weekend and have no risk of missing the Derby della Mole against arch-rivals Juventus.

Even in a game packed with bookings and a late Rolando Mandragora red card, Buongiorno didn’t do enough to get himself dismissed.

So he went to extreme lengths and as he was being substituted by Tommaso Pobega, took off his jersey while still on the pitch.

Buongiorno even walked in front of the referee and showed him the jersey around his hands, practically begging to be booked.

This desperation is precisely what sparked the referee’s suspicions and he refused to give the defender what he wanted.

Buongiorno was visibly furious as he finally got to the bench, flinging the shirt to the ground.
