Newcastle United and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali walked in this afternoon for an interrogation with the Turin Prosecutor over the betting scandal.

There had been concerns the player would have to wait until next week, but instead he was spotted attending the offices of prosecutor Manuela Pedrotta at 15.00 UK time (14.00 GMT).

His flight from England had landed in Turin this morning and his agent Giuseppe Riso confirmed that Tonali was ready to confess he suffers from a gambling addiction.

This suggests the former Milan player is prepared to work out a plea bargain with both the civil justice authorities and the sporting figures.

These are two different trials and work at very different speeds.

Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli has worked out a plea bargain that is now officially set at seven months, plus a €12,500 fine.

As part of the plea bargain, Fagioli must also undergo at least six months of therapy for gambling addiction and make a minimum of 10 public appearances discussing his experience to encourage others not to fall into the same trap.
