Newcastle United are down to the details for Sandro Tonali after meeting his agent and Milan, with the deal at €70m plus bonuses and the player earning up to €8m per season. ‘We’re going to Romania.’

It was known that the club had basically agreed to the transfer after Newcastle shifted their original focus from Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella.

Today Newcastle talent scout Steve Nickson and director of sport Dan Ashworth arrived in Milan for the meetings.

Spotted leaving the encounter at a hotel in the city centre, Tonali’s agent Beppe Riso was asked if a deal was done.

“We’re going to Romania,” was his reply.

It is reported Riso and Newcastle representatives are travelling together to meet Tonali.

Tonali is currently in Romania for the European Under-21 Championship, where Italy will play France this evening.

That is why the Newcastle medical will be held there tomorrow, allowing the clubs to confirm the transfer.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Magpies are paying €70m plus €5m in bonuses.

As for Tonali, he is set to sign a contract worth €6m per season plus another €2m in performance-related bonuses.
