Fikayo Tomori discussed the racist abuse from Cagliari fans that he and Mike Maignan received, while he feels very much ‘at home’ with Milan. ‘It’s been a year and two months, but it seems so much longer.’

The England international spoke to Milan’s social media channels and confirmed he is now giving his interviews in Italian, having learned the language remarkably quickly.

This also means he is able to understand the insults aimed at him and goalkeeper Maignan by Cagliari ultras behind the goal after the final whistle of their victory in Sardinia.

“After the match we were happy with the result, but then we heard some things,” said Tomori.

“The whole team, with all the staff, were behind us, even on social media the club made a statement. That’s how a family is. When you’ve got a family like this, it’s easier to lift your head.”

Tomori was signed initially on loan from Chelsea in January 2021 and then purchased outright, but he has become a real mainstay of the Milan defence.

“When I arrived, I was excited to play for Milan. Everyone makes me feel at home, as if I were still in England.

“It’s been a year and two months, but it seems so much longer. I really am very happy here.”
