Marcus Thuram reveals how he felt after scoring a stunner in the Derby della Madonnina, especially after a summer where he joined Inter after being so close to Milan.

The France international had already opened his Serie A account this season, but nothing can compare to the atmosphere of a sold out San Siro when hitting a screamer into the top corner in the Milan Derby.

“I heard this incredible noise, a wonderful noise, and my teammates ran over, so it was a great moment,” Thuram told DAZN after a 5-1 triumph.

“The pass from Dumfries was a bit long, I was alone against a defender, so I decided to go for the shot.”

Did he think that his start to life at Inter and Serie A, following in the footsteps of father Lilian, would immediately be so effective?

“I certainly hoped so. Inter have a great team and I knew I could give my contribution. It’s easy to play with Lautaro Martinez, because he understands football so well and we create space for each other.”

Curiously, over the summer Thuram had been caught in a Derby della Madonnina on the transfer market.

A free agent after leaving Borussia Monchengladbach, he had seemed to be on the verge of joining Milan when suddenly Inter matched their offer and he opted for the blue and black side of the city.

“I was already meant to come here two years ago and it stayed in my head. I worked to regain my form, realised that Inter had not left me and I still strongly wanted to come here. It seemed obvious to me.”

Thuram revealed that his father, the former Parma and Juventus defender Lilian, was in the stands at San Siro this evening.
