Roma’s fears surrounding the condition of Zeki Celik following his injury in yesterday’s loss to Real Betis have come true after a round of medical tests today.

The 25-year-old Turkish full back was forced off the pitch only five minutes into the Giallorossi’s Europa League clash against Real Betis last night, looking pained as he limped off the Stadio Olimpico pitch. Roma feared losing Celik to a long-term injury but were hopeful that things wouldn’t have been as serious as first seemed.

As reported by Sky Sports Italia, Roma’s fears have come true and Celik has suffered a medial collateral injury to his right knee, forcing him to the sidelines for the rest of 2022. The former Lille full back will be unavailable until the return of Serie A after the World Cup break, forcing him to miss at least 10 games.

Celik has avoided suffering any serious injuries before in his career, with the worst being a 26-day absence due to an ankle issue back in 2020.
