The 71-year-old is facing potential action from the European game’s governing body, following racist comments made in the run-up to his election as President of the Italian Football Federation.
“I am waiting with curiosity to see the decision taken by UEFA, after which I will make my defence with all my strength,” Tavecchio has considered on the matter once more today, to Gr Parlamento.
“In any case my position in Italy is not affected in any way and I will not take any sensational decision or steps back with the FIGC.
“If tomorrow a sanction was to arrive, I would respect it. In Italy the prosecutor has closed the investigation whilst even CONI has not considered it, and FIFA have also closed on it, but you continue to talk about it…”
Tavecchio also cast an eye over the start to the Serie A season.
“There is nothing new, the League is reflecting the values in place from last year.
“The strength of these teams is important and it has been further reinforced. Roma have the desire to repeat what they did last year.
“There are some minor changes – Verona has come in as in pursuit of the top two, Inter could be in a better position, Milan were about to get three great results in a row.
“Napoli are going through a particular moment, but the team has potential and their fans are among the best in Italy.
“I hope that this will be a championship of great professionalism and competitiveness, which can compare favourably with the Premier League and the other European Leagues.”
