The injury to Mike Maignan has forced Milan to replace the Frenchman with Ciprian Tatarusanu in their Champions League squad registration list.

The 27-year-old French goalkeeper suffered a calf injury whilst on international duty, forcing him to return to Lombardy. He was taken off after the first half of the 2-0 win over Austria and there are fears that he could be sidelined for up to a month, forcing the Rossoneri to react ahead of their Champions League clashes against Chelsea.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan have now started the process to replace Maignan on the Champions League list with the 36-year-old Tatarusanu. Article 46.2 of UEFA’s rules allow them to temporarily replace the injured Frenchman due to his injury, meaning the 27-year-old can return once he’s overcame his issue.

Tatarusanu joined Milan in a deal worth around €1m in September 2020 from Lyon and has remained a backup option, making only 14 appearances for the club since his arrival.
