World Cup winner Marco Tardelli maintains Juventus are ahead of reigning champions Milan in the Scudetto race, but Napoli ‘remain the favourites.’

The Partenopei are already crowned Winter Champions with two rounds to spare, having opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.

Thanks to a run of eight consecutive victories while keeping clean sheets, Juve have now caught Milan in joint second place.

“Napoli are still the favourites, as how couldn’t they be with 44 points already?” 1982 hero Tardelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Losing against Inter can happen, but I saw Napoli play really relaxed and comfortable against Sampdoria, rediscovering the confidence they had lost in Milan.

“It’s still a bit early to say they have the Scudetto sewn up, though, as it is still the start of January.”

Juventus seemed to be out of the running entirely a few months ago, but the surge along with Milan and Inter dropping points this weekend changed the scenario.

“I think Juventus can believe in the title, because eight wins in a row without conceding is remarkable. I don’t know if it’ll be enough for the Scudetto, but they are flying up the standings.

“The Bianconeri are putting a lot of pressure on the sides above them, certainly Milan, but also now Napoli.”

Former Juventus midfielder Tardelli did admit that when it came to quality of entertainment, Juve weren’t in the frame.

“Napoli and Milan certainly play better football than Juve.”
