Italian sports papers named Alexis Sanchez MVP in InterJuventus as the Nerazzurri star pounced on the Alex Sandro error in the final second of a Supercoppa Italiana showdown at San Siro.

The Brazilian defender chested down a cross from the left, but Sanchez was quick to pounce on the ball and go for the tap-in, giving Inter the sixth Supercoppa in their history.

Alexis was named MVP by the Lega Calcio and all Italian sports papers.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona star had a tough start to the season under Simone Inzaghi, but La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how the 33-year-old is now ‘more than a back-up striker’ at Inter.

Inter 2-1 Juventus: player ratings from San Siro

Sanchez was rated 7 by Gazzetta and Tuttosport and 7.5 by Il Corriere dello Sport. He had been introduced in the second half to replace Edin Dzeko.

On the other hand, Alex Sandro’s mistake cost Juventus the trophy. The Brazilian got 4.5 on Gazzetta, 4 on Tuttosport and 5 on Il Corriere dello Sport.

Clearly, he was Juventus’ worst player at San Siro. The 30-year-old ‘gifted the cup to Inter.’

The Brazilian sees his current deal expire in 2023 and according to multiple reports in Italy, the Old Lady is not considering offering him a contract extension.

  1. I think the entire Juve setup needs to take some responsibility for the result, blaming Alex Sandro as an individual isn’t correct. He made a mistake which cost a goal, definitely a negative point however.. If Juve are winning 4-0, the mistake is nothing more than a blemish. As it was, Juve weren’t in control of the game and were clinging on in the hope of winning the shootout. Poor from Alex Sandro, but the bigger picture is that the entire Juve team was below average.
