Bianconeri boss Allegri noted in his Press conference that his main wish was not to go to extra time, as Serie A resumes this weekend.

The statistics are not in his favour, because since the Supercoppa was inaugurated in 1989, it has gone to extra time on eight out of 30 occasions.

It was decided on penalties only five times, so 16.6 per cent of the total, and two of those were Juve-Milan fixtures.

To make matters worse, the only two previous Super Cup clashes between Juventus and Milan both went to a shoot-out.

On August 3, 2003, the tie was 0-0 after 90 minutes and 1-1 following extra time, so Juve emerged victorious on penalties.

On December 23, 2016, it was 1-1 both in regular time and after supplementary play, but this time Milan won via spot-kicks.

Rossoneri supporters will fondly remember the other time they went to penalties for silverware against Juventus, winning the 2003 Champions League at Old Trafford.
