The tension is rising around coach Thiago Motta after Spezia crashed out of the Coppa Italia, as fans blocked the gates of the stadium.

Lecce earned a 2-0 victory at the Stadio Picco this evening, becoming the only Serie B side to make it into the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

They are also struggling badly in Serie A and were jeered off the pitch, but the situation escalated afterwards.

Ultras are blocking the gates of the stadium and refusing to let the team out, demanding a meeting with them and coach Thiago Motta.

“You’re nothing but a mannequin,” they shouted at the tactician, before chanting for the team to ‘Show some balls.’

Thiago Motta spoke to Sport Mediaset after the game and confessed “Lecce were superior to us tonight and we have to accept the current reality so we can try to improve. We are in a situation where we can only get better.”

He was asked if the club still had faith in him.

“Next question. We all have faith that we can get out of this together.”

  1. Still cannot grasp this concept of ultras and the continued abhorrent , embarrassing, unlawful behavior they exhibit and how it is condoned by the teams, the league, the government and the law. They are criminal thugs and should be treated as such.

  2. Imagine being scared of a small group of teenagers and middle aged men standing outside the stadium. If the players walked out in front if them, absolutely nothing would happen.

  3. Agree with @SL – as long as ULtras behave like this the game remains stuck in the past and unwelcoming to ‘ordinary’ fans.
