Milan are looking for a new home for unneeded defender Mattia Caldara and Spezia have emerged to register their interest.

The 28-year-old Italian centre back spent last season on loan with Venezia and his work wasn’t enough to help them avoid relegation. Due to their drop to Serie B, he has returned to Milanello, forcing the Rossoneri to find a new home for the player.

As reported by Tuttosport, Spezia have registered their interest in Caldara, keen to pick him up this summer. Talks between the Ligurian side and Milan are now ongoing and a deal could be reached fairly soon, with the possible inclusions of young talents Kelvin Amian and Jakub Kiwior.

Caldara’s contract expires with Milan next year, so even a loan departure this summer would essentially spell the end of his time with the Rossoneri.

The Italian defender was once one of the most promising young defenders in Italy and he earnt a €19m move from Atalanta to Juventus in 2017. He never made a first team appearance for the Bianconeri and was eventually sold to Milan in 2018 for €36.8m. Serious injuries ultimately derailed his career and he sadly failed to live up to his potential.
