Spezia have struck a double deal for Milan defender Mattia Caldara and Sampdoria midfielder Albin Ekdal.

According to various sources including Tuttomercatoweb, Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, both players are set to undergo their medicals on Tuesday.

Ekdal is a free agent after his contract with Sampdoria was allowed to run down and it is believed he has agreed a one-year deal with Spezia, which has an option for a second season.

Meanwhile, Milan defender Caldara is eager for more playing time after his loan experience with Venezia.

He is due to arrive on loan at Spezia with an option to buy at the end of the season for circa €3m.

The 28-year-old centre-back is still tied to Milan until June 2024 and is a product of the Atalanta youth academy, making the move from Juventus to the Rossoneri for €37m in 2018, before his career was derailed by injuries.

Caldara had also been linked with Bologna, Empoli and Sampdoria this summer.
