Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti believes “we’ve made progress”, regardless of Champions League qualification.
The Nerazzurri are locked in a battle for the top four with Roma and Lazio, but are currently two points behind the Aquile in fifth place.
“Last year in Week 32 Inter had 16 points fewer than Roma, five than Lazio and two than Milan,” Spalletti pointed out in his pre-Sassuolo Press conference.

“Now we have four fewer than Roma, two fewer than Lazio and nine more than Milan. That’s the balance, it’s up to you to decide if that’s because we’ve been better or the others have been worse.
“As the Coach of this team I’m happy with what we’re doing. We’ve made progress, there have been times when we’ve struggled but now we’re close to being a strong team.
“We started with a gap to bridge and to see if there was any chance of competing with the two teams immediately above us.
“I thought there were three unreachable teams, at the moment there are two [Juventus and Napoli].”
Spalletti was then asked if he would have signed up to be in this position before the season started.
“Yes, because I knew who our opponents were and and what some teams were doing, as well as the strength of Juventus, Napoli and Roma.
“So I was convinced we could fight until the last game.”
Stefan de Vrij is expected to sign for Inter at the end of the season, if the Inter Coach were Simone Inzaghi, would he play him in the Week 38 game?
“I find it hard enough to be Spalletti…” the Tuscan replied.
“I concentrate on my own house, I’m not a superhero [who can be two people at once]. On that subject we’re closing the shutters, we’re just thinking about tomorrow’s game.
“The transfer market? We have to see what happens in the last two games. Tomorrow there will be a full stadium, let’s stay focused on this game, let’s not talk about less important things.”
Finally, Spalletti was asked if he felt refereeing decisions had affected the season.
“That’s something else we’ll talk about at the end of the season. Shutters closed.”
