This Serie A round is sandwiched between the Europa League ties with Eintracht Frankfurt, having drawn 0-0 in Germany on Thursday, with the Derby della Madonnina against Milan next weekend.

“I will have to make some changes, but always with first choice players replacing other first choice players,” assured the Coach in his Press conference.

“It would be wonderful to celebrate this week the 111th anniversary of Inter’s foundation with our fans and a victory.”

Inter released a video to mark the club’s birthday, but Icardi was suspiciously absent. As negotiations between sport CEO Beppe Marotta and Icardi’s lawyer continue, will the striker return to the squad?

“I am not really keeping up to date with this matter, so you’d best ask Marotta. There are some things that need to be clarified and it’s only right to ask him. As for me, I need to focus my energy and time on winning the game and working in training.

“I expect my team to step up and adapt to every situation, whether it’s Eintracht or Milan. We must learn from mistakes and have no doubts on what our future or attitude ought to be.”

Pressed on the Icardi situation, as the striker hasn’t played since he was stripped of the Inter captaincy on February 13, Spalletti again shrugged off responsibility.

“If someone has played constantly for six months, having 10 days out may well help and have a regenerative effect.

“As for the others, it’s unlikely Radja Nainggolan will be ready for the derby, although he has been known to make miraculous recoveries. Ivan Perisic and Keita Balde Diao are available against SPAL.”
