Napoli now stand between the team and the competition final and having held Walter Mazzarri’s men to a 1-1 draw at the San Paolo in the League last weekend, Mezzaroma believes her side are not phased by this latest Cup challenge.

“We are playing almost every three days,” she declared on Radio Sport. “On Sunday we face Fiorentina, then we are at home to Catania then we are in Turin to face Antonio Conte. It will be a fire in February.

“However, the satisfaction of reaching the Coppa Italia semi-final is really beyond all limits, it is a historic achievement. Last Sunday Napoli did not scare us. We deserved to win and they only scored in the 86th minute.

“I repeat, I do not expect them to make us afraid in our stadium.

“It is an honour to get to play for this target because it is something you would never imagine. Thinking about Europe, it would be a thrill to experience, but we cannot forget that our League campaign is about survival.

“We do not want to reconsider Serie B because it has been a tough year with sacrifices.”

Mezzaroma reflected on choosing Coach Giuseppe Sannino this summer. The 54-year-old had impressed at Varese, but arrived in Tuscany as a novice to Serie A.

“Sannino was a good choice, given we came from a great leader in Conte, who is showing his worth to Juventus.

“I think we bet on another winning horse, a man with great humility, who is stern, but that is greatly accepted in the dressing room. All we need now is a little more up front and a little malice.

“Now there is also the transfer market and [sporting director Giorgio] Perinetti and my brother [President Massimo Mezzaroma] are in it. Their ambition is great and as you know, all the surprises come on the last day.

“I really want [Filippo] Inzaghi. I love him because he always finds the net. He is one of our hypotheses, I hope [he’ll arrive].”
