The German youngster played on the right side of a back-three and won everything in the air. Always combative, conscientious and considered, he moved up front for a corner and scored with a looping header. Committed.

Getting by Napoli’s ironman is like trying to get into the Vatican on the free Sunday every month – almost impossible. He nicked, flicked and kicked away everything and anything while always completely comfortable with the ball. Unyielding.
Mehdi Benatia [Roma]
Doesn’t seem to have bad games and put in another extremely solid shift facing his former teammates. Never put a foot wrong and his assurance at the back allows Roma to be forceful further forward. Exceptional.

Was effective, energetic and consistently embarrassed Kevin Constant as he ruled the right flank with his devastating runs into the heart of the Milan defence. Played his part in the first two goals and brought balance of the team. Dynamic.

With a pass ratio of 94 per cent he was at the heart of all Inter’s best moves. Steady and reliable, he was closely involved with two of the goals as well as scoring himself. Unswerving.

Almost unplayable and certainly unbeatable with his sudden appearances in the box from deep. Scored the first, set up the second and topped a cracking performance with a superb 35-yard strike to win the game. Brilliant.
Kwadwo Asamoah [Juve]
Always menaced down the left flank with his pace and earned the penalty with it. Continued to cause problems and it was his clever pass that set up Carlos Tevez before the crowd rose as one when he was subbed. Awesome.
Dries Mertens [Napoli]
The Belgian forward, with his close control and ball skills, always found space to attack and cause problems. His pace and trickery also saw him earn a penalty with all the craftiness of the most cunning scugnizzo. Scheming.
Rodrigo Palacio [Inter]
A thorn in Verona’s side throughout the game and had a massive hand in the first goal. He scored the second, while the third came from his rebound and his touch on provided Rolando for the fourth. Inspiring.
Carlos Tevez [Juventus]
Another exhilarating performance and consistently threatened the Genoa goal. Hit the post, murdered the bar and took his goal with a real No 10’s aplomb as he latched on to Asamoah’s pass, spun round a defender and slotted home. Invigorating.
