With the top four playing between themselves in a real Super Sunday, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 18.

Diego Lopez [Milan]

With most of his defence as handy as a hamster wheel in a giraffes’ gymnasium the Spaniard had to rescue the Rossoneri on many occasions to grab the point. He was especially alert when saving a Fabio Quagliarella effort. Attentive.

Sime Vrsaljko [Sassuolo]

Diego Lopez [Milan]

With most of his defence as handy as a hamster wheel in a giraffes’ gymnasium the Spaniard had to rescue the Rossoneri on many occasions to grab the point. He was especially alert when saving a Fabio Quagliarella effort. Attentive.

Sime Vrsaljko [Sassuolo]

Controlled the right flank and caused problems throughout the game with his passing and crosses. Always an outlet he set up the opening goal for Simone Zaza with a sublime cross that was perfect for the subsequent headed goal. Nuisance.

Kamil Glik [Torino]

Easily the best pass completion rate with a whopping 93.4 per cent reaching their intended targets. Tough in the tackle, he annulled the Milan forwards, set up goal attempts and almost scored one before hitting home the equaliser. Solid.

Nemanja Vidic [Inter]

With his headed Johnny-on-the-spot goal, his clearances, tackles, interceptions and blocked shots, the Serbian was on top form throughout. Totally in charge he never give Alessandro Matri a chance and had him in his pocket throughout. Commanding.

Manuel Pasqual [Fiorentina]

The Italian left wing-back had an absolutely standout game and caused trouble throughout. Finding space at the edge of the box he struck home the opener before putting in a perfect cross for Juan Cuadrado to slot home. Prominent.

Joaquin Sanchez [Fiorentina]

Never gave Palermo a moment’s peace, especially Achraf Laazar, with his runs down the right flank. However, it was his goal that was the highlight of the match as he completed a ‘Del Piero-esque curler’ into the far top corner. Outstanding.

Paul Pogba [Juventus]

The French ace scored a magnificent volley from the left and was always first to the ball with his sheer physicality continuously to the fore. He outshone everyone in the midfield and was completely unstoppable at times. Bravura.

Robin Quaison [Palermo]

Made a real impact after half-time scoring twice to bring the visitors right back into the game. Immediately alert, he exploited a defensive mistake for his first while his second saw him jump on another slip-up. Precise.

Felipe Anderson [Lazio]

Another stunning performance from the young Brazilian who set up Stefano Mauri’s goal with a sculpted pass over the Roma defence before following that up with a thunderbolt into the bottom corner of the net. Remarkable.

Francesco Totti [Roma]

No Totti no party, as he grabbed the game by its scruff in the second half and scored a brilliant brace. His first saw him in the right place, his second came via an acrobatic volley from a tight angle. Seismic.

Eder [Sampdoria]

Led the line like a true centre-forward pressing Empoli throughout. Finally got his rewards four minutes into the second half with a vicious curler via his deadly right foot that absolutely whipped past a dumbstruck Luigi Sepe. Imposing.

Special Mentions: Mauro Icardi [Inter], Rodrigo Palacio [Inter], Kevin Strootman [Roma], Stefano Mauri [Lazio], Luca Toni [Verona], Martin Caceres [Juventus], Juan Cuadrado [Fiorentina], Pedro Obiang [Sampdoria]
