The Blucerchiati sacked Marco Giampaolo after last week’s 3-0 home defeat to Monza, which left them rock bottom after just two points from eight rounds, their worst ever Serie A start.

Stankovic was a player in Serie A for Lazio and Inter, but this is his first coaching role in Italy after three years at Red Star Belgrade.

Harry Winks and Manuel De Luca are still out of action, with Ciccio Caputo supported by Manolo Gabbiadini, Abdelhamid Sabiri and Filip Djuricic.

Bologna fired Sinisa Mihajlovic, a very good friend and former teammate of Stankovic, last month and lost both games so far under Thiago Motta without scoring a goal.

Musa Barrow is still injured and he sticks with the 4-2-3-1 formation, which has not proved popular with the players.

Bologna: Skorupski; Cambiaso, Soumaoro, Lucumi, Lykogiannis; Medel, Schouten; Orsolini, Dominguez, Aebischer; Arnautovic

Sampdoria: Audero; Bereszynski, Murillo, Colley, Augello; Rincon, Vieira; Gabbiadini, Sabiri, Djuricic; Caputo
