Former Fiorentina, Roma and Inter legend Gabriel Batistuta had his assets frozen in Argentina over approximately €32m of unpaid taxes.

According to Clarin newspaper, magistrates in his hometown of Reconquista ordered the asset freeze for at least five days, or until the outstanding taxes have been paid.

There is also 15 per cent interest to be paid on the outstanding sum, plus social contributions, for a total of almost four million pesos, approximately €32m.

Batistuta has been involved in tax rows already in recent years in Argentina, as he was one of several athletes who argued the contribution requested by the Government to help everyone through the COVID-19 pandemic was unfair.

Others who tried to take legal action against the payment of the contribution include former Juventus striker Carlos Tevez.

Batistuta, now 53, retired in 2005 after spending much of his career in Italy with Fiorentina, Roma and Inter.

He scored 183 goals in 318 Serie A appearances, as well as 16 in 26 Serie B games for the Viola.
