Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri was asked whether his Napoli or Luciano Spalletti’s current side were the most beautiful team. ‘If you prefer blondes…’

Sarri came so close to winning the Scudetto in 2017-18, only to miss out by a handful of points to Juventus, after playing exhilarating football that saw the terms ‘Sarriball’ and ‘Sarrismo’ coined in his honour.

Now Spalletti seems to be on the verge of securing the third Serie A title in Napoli’s history, despite this evening’s 1-0 home defeat to Sarri’s Lazio.

In the press conference at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Sarri was asked whether his Napoli or the current incarnation was the Great Beauty?

“You can have many beauties. If you prefer blondes, it’s not as if a pretty brunette walks past and you call her ugly,” replied the former Chelsea coach.

“The difference between the teams is that this Napoli is going to win and for that I envy them like crazy! Spalletti has been phenomenal, along with the club and director of sport, he had the courage to do things that had never been done before.”

After 24 rounds in 2017-18, Sarri’s Napoli had amassed 63 points, compared to Spalletti’s 65.

The big difference is that while back then Juve were only one point behind, this time Napoli have an 18-point cushion to work with.
