Empoli’s Riccardo Saponara has admitted that he cried tears of joy after hearing reports that Milan have done a deal to sign him.

The Tuscan club, who part own him with Parma, have agreed to sell their share of the winger to the Rossoneri for around €4m.

“It is not yet official, but if it is true then it would be extraordinary,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday.

“I would never have thought that I would be able to reach such an objective.

“I was at training yesterday when my teammates, who had heard the stories, came over to me and hugged me. I knew nothing.

“For me, Milan are football and Kaka has always been my idol. I couldn’t ask for more, this is a dream.

“When I was told of all this I started to cry, but I feel ready. Now I just have to concentrate on doing as well as possible over these next six months for Empoli.”

The deal for Saponara, who is expected to head to Milanello in July, should be wrapped up at some stage next week.
