Sampdoria are reportedly ready to close out the deal for Gonzalo Villar after reaching an agreement with Roma.

Blucerchiati coach Marco Giampaolo has been keen to add the 24-year-old Spaniard to his midfield for a few weeks now, and the Ligurian side’s recent approach proved crucial as they finally managed to close the gap with the Giallorossi.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma have agreed to send Villar to Sampdoria on a year-long loan deal with an €8m buy option attached. The Spaniard failed to convince Jose Mourinho and so wasn’t included in the project in the Italian capital.

After struggling to impress the Portuguese coach in the first half of last season, the 24-year-old was sent on loan to Getafe, where he provided one assist in 10 La Liga appearances.

Roma signed Villar from Elche in January 2020 in a deal worth around €5m. He’s made 63 appearances across all competitions for the club, providing one assist in that time.
