The ruling for Salernitana’s unplayed Serie A match against Udinese is suspended, meaning an appeal is expected, as they have legal precedent after Napoli’s similar situation with Juventus last year.

The Serie A Week 19 game did not go ahead at the Dacia Arena on Tuesday evening, officially because Salernitana did not turn up.

This is because they had been ordered not to travel by the local health authority (ASL) after posting two positive COVID tests among their players.

The Lega Serie A and Udinese refused to postpone the match, because the COVID protocol should allow for a game to be played with only two positive cases.

Therefore, Udinese should be granted an automatic 3-0 victory and Salernitana docked one point.

However, the Disciplinary Commission today suspended any ruling on the match, which suggests Salernitana have already promised an appeal.

They have precedent on their side, as last year Napoli were prevented from travelling for a game against Juventus in similar circumstances.

The COVID protocol can be over-ruled by the ASL, so Napoli were given the benefit of the doubt and Salernitana have that precedent to rely on.
