There are eight players suspended in Serie A for Week 20, but also a frankly bizarre ban for a Sassuolo medic’s idea of dissent.

The Lega Serie A Disciplinary Commission announced the eight players who are suspended for the next round of Serie A games, which will be played from January 6.

Tanner Tessmann of Venezia receives a one-match ban for his straight red card foul on Lazio’s Luis Alberto.

An accumulation of yellow cards sees suspension for Kristoffer Askildsen (Sampdoria), Mattia Caldara (Venezia), Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter), Dalbert (Cagliari), Remo Freuler (Atalanta), Mario Rui (Napoli) and Stefano Sturaro (Genoa).

The announcement of the disciplinary action taken against players and staff raised a few eyebrows this week, especially amid suggestions Italian football is too harsh on the idea of dissent towards its officials.

Sassuolo medic Claudio Rigo has been given a one-match ban for “contesting a refereeing decision by raising his arms to the sky.”

Hellas Verona fitness coach Giovanni Brignardello also received a one-match ban for having a “provocative attitude” towards a player from the opposing team.
