Maurizio Sarri is now officially the new Lazio coach and legend Arrigo Sacchi believes his presence will ‘help elevate Serie A.’

The former Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus tactician had taken the 2020-21 season off after his dismissal in Turin, despite winning the Serie A title.

“I believe the campaign he spent with the Bianconeri really taught him a great deal,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Seeing as we are talking about an intelligent man, I am certain this experience improved him as a coach. He’ll do very well at Lazio.”

It’ll certainly be an interesting Rome Derby next time, as Sarri will be up against new Roma boss Jose Mourinho.

“I say that Sarri’s return will help elevate Serie A, because I believe coaches must be teachers, strategists and not just tacticians.

“Sarri is someone who teaches football, his lads just have to follow his instructions and you’ll see they will achieve fine results. Naturally, he’ll need a little time for them all to adapt to each other, because you don’t build a castle overnight.”

Sarri is transforming Lazio to his 4-3-3 formation, whereas Simone Inzaghi played 3-5-2 at Lazio for five years.
