Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini spoke with fans outside the training ground, urging them not to ‘abandon’ the team.

The Giallorossi’s season is in tatters after a 3-0 defeat at home to Fiorentina saw them crash out of the Europa League, having already been eliminated from the Coppa Italia.

Rudi Garcia’s side also trail Juventus by 14 points in Serie A, and it now seems almost certain that they will end the season without a trophy.

“Don’t abandon Roma,” Sabatini told angry fans at the training ground today.

“Continue to support them. The team is in trouble, but these are good lads as well as good players. Give them a month to work.

“We’re still second, you need to help the team.

“I’m not shirking my responsibilities”

The final sentence was a reiteration of the director’s acceptance that he has made some bad decisions in the transfer market.
