Former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge did not mince his words when discussing the Super League and lay blame at the door of Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli.

The Bianconeri are one of three clubs still involved with the remnants of the Super League project, alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona. Work is still ongoing on the second launch of the project but it will be difficult for it to shake the terrible reputation the proposed competition has with supporters across Europe.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Rummenigge first gave his thoughts on the criticisms of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“In 2010 when the World Cup was announced no one complained. To do it twelve years later makes little sense to me. But I don’t criticise the critics, the issue is complicated, and it’s right that everyone has their own vision.”

He spoke about the Super League project and if it was launched out of desperation.

“Yes, there is no other motivation. And even the amateurish way in which they presented it proves it. The Champions League remains the most popular competition.”

The former Bayern Munich CEO lay some of the blame at the door of Juventus chairman Agnelli.

“I don’t understand why someone like Andrea Agnelli, who has always given me the impression of being intelligent, has acted in this way.

“I read that football is sick, but thanks to who? Also thanks to him.”

He blamed Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for the inflated prices in the transfer market.

“City and PSG drug the market. It’s out of control more and more every year. Bayern has a different philosophy, always with a budget in the black for thirty years.”

Finally, Rummenigge discussed the death of the Super League and if any Italian clubs would still join a version of the project.

“The Super League is dead, no German, English or French team will ever join it. The Italians? I know Marotta well and I know that he would like to earn a bit more. But at what price?”

  1. Yes I’m sure teams like Lyon and Wolfsburg love losing to the same team every year and making no money. Clown. You are the reason football is dead

  2. Ofc Rummenigge have no problem with Qatar. Seeing as Bayern have several sponsor deals with them. Football is sick because of sportswashing, and this fool have no problem with it with Bayern benefitting

  3. Bayern has poached the German smaller clubs of their talent for years to stay on top and keep them little .. of course he likes things the way they are
