Roma have confirmed that defender Marash Kumbulla has successfully undergone an operation to repair his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 23-year-old Albanian centre back was forced off the pitch just 15 minutes into the Giallorossi’s 1-1 draw with Milan at the end of April, clearly in agony as he came off.

Roma are notoriously unlucky with injuries and this season has been no different, with the team losing Paris Saint-Germain loanee Georginio Wijnaldum to a broken leg soon after his arrival last summer.

As announced by Roma via TMW, Kumbulla will be out of action for a number of months after undergoing surgery today to repair his anterior cruciate ligament. The operation was carried out in Milan by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, in the presence of Roma’s medical director Dr. Massimo Manara.

The injury could spell the end of Kumbulla’s 2023. A similar injury forced Juventus winger Federico Chiesa to be sidelined for around 10 months.
