Kevin Strootman says Roma’s Derby win over Lazio will have been ‘useless’ if they do not follow it up by beating Milan.

The Giallorossi lie second in Serie A, four points behind leaders Juventus and level with Monday’s opponents.

“I would say Suso and Bonaventura, Bacca if he plays,” Strootman replied when asked who he believes are the Rossoneri’s main threats.

“There is also Locatelli who has developed a lot compared to last year. But they are strong as a team and they have shown that they manage to win even without playing well.

“We need to be alert, we have an important chance. Without the win, the Derby win will have been useless.”

The 26-year-old then commented on other Dutch stars to have graced Italian football, as well as his national team’s current struggles.

“Gullit, Rijkaared, Van Basten. Together with Seedorf they changed Italian football history.

“It is the generation of stars after Cruyff and Neeskens. I could only watch them on video, but they were formidable.

“Our players don’t play for the big clubs anymore like before. There is a middle generation missing between the good youngsters and the seniors like Robben and Sneijder. But things are improving.”

Strootman added that he doesn’t see too many differences between the two Coaches he has worked under at Roma, Rudi Garcia and Luciano Spalletti.

“Not much [difference]. Spalletti is maybe more attentive to the defence and rotates his players more, while Garcia often played the same players.”

Finally, the midfielder revealed talks are ongoing over a contract renewal.

“We are working on it and I am optimistic. In 2013 Garcia and Sabatini convinced me to come because we were rebuilding.

“They have done it, now it needs the final step.”
