The 26-year-old Italy international is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans and has been placed on the transfer market in January.

While Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli had shown interest, Roma are now the hot favourites after approaching Inter.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, Politano is seen as the first choice replacement for Zaniolo, who will be out for six months following surgery on a ruptured ACL and meniscus.

Politano’s versatility is key, as he can play on the right, left or in a trequartista role.

He is also a considerably cheaper option than Milan’s Suso, who would cost €30m, and aided by the fact Inter need to release Politano before they can secure Olivier Giroud from Chelsea.
