A highly entertaining game between the Giallorossi and the Rossoneri ended in a 2-1 win for Milan and the referee was in the spotlight again, with disallowed goals, penalty decisions and, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, a missing red card.

The newspaper claims Guida was ‘not convincing from a technical point of view’, who believes he 'missed two penalties' and should have sent off Federico Fazio.

The Giallorossi defender’s trod on Davide Calabria’s foot on the line of the penalty area ended in a spot kick, thanks to VAR.

Fazio then applauded the decision, but was only shown a yellow card by Guida, and Il Corriere dello Sport felt he should have been sent off.

Tuttosport agrees VAR helped the match official on the ‘incomprehensible penalty’ for the Rossoneri, but was not as hard on the referee when they rated him 5.5 for the performance.

La Gazzetta dello Sport points out the correctly disallowed goals and claims he was right to not award penalties to either Henrikh Mkhitaryan against Theo Hernandez, or Rafael Leao, who was brought down by Rick Karsdorp at the other end.

Roma pointed out on Twitter after the match that ‘Guida and the VAR, didn’t think Theo Hernandez fouled Mkhitaryan in the area’.

Marco Guida’s ratings in the Italian papers

Tuttosport: 5.5

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 6.5

Il Corriere dello Sport: 4.5
