Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano said he has always ‘lived for football’ and claimed ‘safety would have more value than a Scudetto’ for the Aquilotti.

Italiano prepares for the match against Juventus on Tuesday and was interviewed by La Repubblica ahead of the big game at the Allianz Stadium.

“I have lived for football since I had a sense of reason,” he said. “When I stopped playing, I felt like I was dying.

“But now I do something that drives me crazy. Football is my reason to live.”

Spezia have done well in their first year in Serie A and Italiano said his team will be the ‘revelation’ of the season if they manage to stay up.

“Most thought they would cut us into pieces,” he continued. “We had a quick transfer market because we finished last season on August 20.

“We played for months on a neutral pitch and many of our players didn’t know Serie A.

“If salvation comes, it will have more value to us than a Scudetto. For now, we are doing well, we will be the revelation when we are saved.”

Italiano hopes his men will be inspired to give Juventus problems and points at the 2-0 win over Milan.

“We know we face one of the strongest teams in Europa and in Italy,” Italiano added. “They have some problems, but we won’t think about that.

“We must approach the match at the Juventus Stadium like we did when we played Milan.”
