Simone Sozza has been appointed for Inter vs. Roma, but the Giallorossi fans are unhappy with AIA’s decision as the referee was born in Milano and lives in Lombardy.

AIA has announced the referees for matchday 34 and Sozza has been appointed for the big match on Saturday at San Siro. Many Roma fans are protesting AIA’s decision on social media. They believe it’s unfair that a match official born in Milano is allowed to oversee an Inter match against an opponent from a different region.

Sozza was born in Milan on August 19, 1987 and is regarded as one of the most promising young referees in Italy. Despite protests from Roma fans, his appointment for the game is legitimate as AIA doesn’t consider relevant the place where a referee was born but only the section to which he belongs.

Sozza is from the AIA section of Seregno, just outside Milan, so he is still entitled to referee an Inter game.

  1. Apparently, he is not; someone just added that randomly on Wikipedia to cause some more chaos.

  2. Lol better to cry first instead of waiting to cry afterwards knowing full well it won’t be the team mistakes but the ref. This is so funny… on the other hand of the ref is supporting Milan then it might be a big mistake. Just to be safe they should just change the ref but sadly it won’t change the inevitable result

  3. I think the rules should be changed only on the remaining matches involving Inter so that to ensure FAIRNESS so far they’ve been helped in scoring too many goals and conceding less basically they’ve been consistently LUCKY unlike others who don’t get any calls in their favour. If the help was taken away I don’t think Inter would be the best performing Italian team in and outside Italy after going to-toe-to with the inevitable CL winners Liverpool. PS: All of this is true 100%

  4. Another nobody in charge of an important match. If he makes a blatant mistake, it won’t make as much noise as if someone like Orsato does it.

How can you not put your best referees in charge of the most important match of the week? They have done it to Milan already in a few occasions this season and every time they did damage to Milan. These referees took points off Milan when we played against Spezia, Udinese and Napoli, while these same refs rescued points for Inter when they played against Venezia, Fiorentina and Torino.

I’m telling you, another one is incoming. Not that Mourinho needs any help in gifting Inter free points, but still …

  5. Those suggestions that Mourinho will let Inter win are stupid. Mourinho doesn’t love Inter more than himself. He walked out on Inter when Real called. Mourinho cares about Mourinho mainly. And Roma at least mathematically can make CL, no one is throwing any games. It is not Totonero times, Milanisti 😉

  6. Those complaining about the ref do realize that there is VAR too right? So if the ref gets a pk wrong, var will correct him (for example). Did refs from Lombardy also officiate when Inter comfortably won 3-0 and 2-0 against Roma this season? No. But excuses are nice…

  7. @Milanfan

Same refs awarded Milan the highest number of pks in Europe last season. Same refs gave you 6 points against Roma this season when Kjaer and Tonali were allowed to foul Roma players in the penalty area and escape unpinished. Same refs gave you 3 points at Venezia this season when Saladmaker or Salamimaker whatever he is called kicked a Venezia player and was not sent off etc.. stop whining.

  8. I believe Gianluca Rocchi was born in Florence but still refereed Fiorentina games when he was a referee. Being born somewhere or living somewhere doesn’t necessarily mean ref will help the team of his area. But Roma are playing it smart so the ref will favour them to make sure he looks fair.

  9. So a ref born in Milan automatically makes him an Inter fan? AC Milan are from Milan too, no Andy? There are juventini in Milan (the city) Anyhow whining about the ref before a ball is kicked is funny. Inter have beaten Roma twice this season already, with 5 goals scored to none.

  10. A referee who supported Milan as a child named Abisso once in 2018-2019 awarded a penalty against Inter in Firenze after a ball hit the chest of D’Ambrosio. But who cares if that doesn’t fit the agenda huh… 😉

  11. Guess who officiated Milan v Lazio earlier this season? Hint: a ref from Milano. Same ref: Simone Sozza. Milanisti, kindly shut up, you didn’t mind a Milano ref then no?

  12. Anon, Another biased clueless simpleton who disregards the calls that harmed Inter and bring up those in favour of Inter to suit his crybaby agenda.

  13. Relax, Inter is the stronger team, they don’t need any help from the refs. That doesn’t mean to expect fair calls- Roma will not be allowed to take points, even if by some chance the game goes in their favor. They already made sure that Zaniolo won’t play. Expect an early yellow on a Roma defender or central midfielder (as usual). If El Shaw scores, 10 minute VAR check to photoshop Abraham’s little toe offside. Too important for rube to make 4th.

  14. @Milan Fan just recently what VAR did when Hernandez fouled Darmian which was a clear foul and a penalty or did they do anything when he was supposed to get a red card when he fouled Correa. It seems Milan thinks VAR is only against them but turn blind if it favours Milan. The season is not even over yet but it’s clear who will win the league
