Roma coach Jose Mourinho did not take any risks with Lorenzo Pellegrini in the 1-0 win over Spezia and expects to have the Italian back for the tough clash with Napoli.

The 26-year-old midfielder was forced to come off at the half time break of the Giallorossi’s 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Genoa on January 12th, feeling a slight injury. Tests later suggested that he’d avoided any serious issues and he subsequently played 74 minutes of the 2-0 win over Fiorentina, although he didn’t take any set pieces.

Mourinho decided not to risk Pellegrini for the away trip to Spezia and left the Roma captain on the bench, allowing him to recover his strength.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Pellegrini arrived at Trigoria today to train and continue working on his fitness. Mourinho gave his Roma squad the day off but the midfielder was also joined by new signing Ola Solbakken and outcast Rick Karsdorp at the training ground.

The Giallorossi will be hungry for all three points in their upcoming match with Napoli as they look to take a commanding step in the race for a top four finish.
