Sky Sport Italia claim that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has today formally approached Antonio Conte to discuss replacing Rudi Garcia at the club and there could be an in-person meeting.

The rumours of interest in Conte had been circulating for several days and Conte himself did not deny or exclude himself from the possibility when speaking to reporters last night at an event for 100 years of the Agnelli family at Juventus.

According to Sky Sport Italia reporter Fabrizio Romano and others, initial discussions have now taken the next step towards formal talks.

Garcia is in an increasingly precarious position after a poor start to the season, which saw him manage five wins, two draws and three defeats between Serie A and the Champions League.

De Laurentiis is currently in Rome at the Filmauro offices and Radio Marte suggest an in-person meeting is possible today with Conte.

Conte has been out of work since leaving Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent on March 26.

His last role in Italy was at Inter, from 2019 to 2021.
