The lawyers representing Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli reveal he was the one who contacted the authorities to discuss potentially illegal betting and is ‘facing the situation with a sense of responsibility.’

News emerged today that an investigation was taking place into Fagioli for potential gambling through illegal online platforms.

If Fagioli is found guilty of gambling on games organised by the FIGC, UEFA or FIFA, then he could face a fine and possibly be suspended for up to three years.

Lawyers representing Fagioli sent out a statement to news agency ANSA about the state of affairs.

“As lawyers for Nicolò Fagioli, we can confirm that our client is facing the situation with a sense of responsibility, with utmost transparency and collaboration with the sporting and civil justice authorities.

“This is confirmed by the fact he was first to swiftly inform the prosecutor of the situation. Nicolò is calm and fully concentrated on Juventus and this season.”

It is not yet clear what events Fagioli placed bets on and whether this was a violation of the sporting justice code of ethics.

A product of the Juventus youth academy, the 22-year-old midfielder has appeared in six Serie A games this season, providing one assist.

He also has one senior cap for Italy, earned in November 2022.
