Sportitalia report that Lazio are on the verge of signing Italy international Domenico Berardi from Lazio for €20m plus bonuses.

According to their transfer specialist Rudy Galletti, the negotiations are at an advanced stage between the clubs, while personal terms were already agreed with the player last week.

He was requested specifically by coach Maurizio Sarri following their qualification for the Champions League.

The right-sided winger turns 29 in August and has spent his entire career with Sassuolo from the youth academy to the present day.

He was purchased in a co-ownership deal by Juventus in 2013, but remained at the Mapei Stadium and refused the transfer to Turin.

Even with injury problems this season, Berardi still contributed 12 goals and seven assists in 26 Serie A appearances.

Napoli and Fiorentina were also linked with a potential swoop this summer, while Milan and Inter have shown interest in the past.

In order to sign new players, Lazio must first sell to balance the books, so the Biancocelesti will need a fresh injection of capital before they can make the move official.
