Atalanta boss Edy Reja celebrated a point at the Olimpico, but confessed he “expected more” from Roma.

The 1-1 draw was decided by two first half penalties, converted by Francesco Totti and German Denis.

“It’s a very important point for the table and a particular morale-booster in this difficult time,” Reja told Sky Sport Italia.

The Orobici are still hovering right above the relegation zone, but rarely seemed under that much pressure in this game.

“We suffered a little and did well to close all the spaces. It’s a shame we didn’t make more of our counter-attacking opportunities, but it was very hot today and at the end everyone was tired.

“I asked the lads to keep possession, as on hot days like this it’s better to force your opponent to do the running.

“We prepared the game well with four attacking players, but went too deep in the second half and probably felt nervous. We took home an excellent point.”

Roma would’ve leapt back into second place with a win following Lazio’s 2-0 defeat at Juventus last night, but couldn’t muster enough.

“I had expected more from them,” admitted Reja. “I had seen in recent games their performances were improving, but perhaps they were tired from the heat. Last season they had more pace and incisive runs.

“They have many out injured and without the full squad we probably aren’t seeing the ‘real’ Roma.”
