Claudio Ranieri insists Roma are Scudetto material after beating Cagliari and denies there was “a tempest” within the squad.

When asked if they could challenge for the title, Cagliari President Massimo Cellino said he didn't think so.

“We will do everything we can to prove Cellino wrong, as I believe Roma are among the four or five sides capable of the final victory, even if Inter and Milan have amazing squads,” said Ranieri after the 3-0 win.

“I was a little concerned after the break, as we were stretched out in defence, but the midfield was excellent. We're playing every three days, so I have to rotate the squad to get the best out of them in the long-term.

“It's the first time Roma have had such a competitive squad. It's logical everyone wants to play and it's a tough transition to deal with, but I am convinced the fruits of our labour will arrive.”

The Giallorossi have had notorious problems this season with players showing their obvious irritation at being substituted or coming off the bench for the final minutes, including Francesco Totti and Mirko Vucinic.

“There never was any tempest,” assured Ranieri. “Someone behaved in a certain way and quite rightly the journalists did their jobs.

“The balance of a locker room is very delicate and the Roma one is made of lads who take the right path. We may not be as competitive as Inter and Milan, but with these fans and the right team spirit, anything can happen.”
