Claudio Ranieri has come full circle to where his career really took off at Cagliari and announced he will probably ‘finish here as well.’

The 71-year-old helped the Sardinians from the lower divisions to the top flight from 1988 to 1991 before embarking on a journey all over Europe that included Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, Roma, Inter, Monaco, Nantes and of course winning the Premier League at Leicester City.

He returned to Cagliari on January 1 and took them to promotion via the Serie B play-offs, eliminating Bari in a dramatic final, and is under contract until June 2025.

“I think that I will end my career at Cagliari,” Ranieri told RAI TGR Calabria ahead of the new Serie A season.

“I would only make an exception if there was a good national team job that would allow me to work. When I left the Greece role, I was upset.”

That experience as the national coach of Greece only lasted four months and four matches from July to November 2014.

The results were dismal too, managing a 1-1 draw with Finland and defeats to Romania, Northern Ireland and the Faroe Islands.
