Claudio Ranieri is the current favourite to take over at Bologna after Sinisa Mihajlovic was sacked.

The Serbian tactician was officially dismissed this afternoon following 130 games in charge since January 2019, as the season began with only two draws and three defeats in Serie A.

This decision has angered many fans, as Mihajlovic is still undergoing treatment for leukaemia, which was first diagnosed in July 2019.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Ranieri is the current favourite to replace Mihajlovic on the Stadio Dall’Ara bench.

The coach turns 71 next month and wrote his name in the history books when winning the Premier League with Leicester City in 2016, even if that didn’t stop him getting fired in February 2017.

He has since worked at FC Nantes, Fulham, Roma, Sampdoria and Watford, the latter experience lasting only from October 2021 to January 2022.

Other alternatives for the role include Paulo Sousa, who has offered himself to various clubs after an ill-fated spell at Flamengo, former Spezia boss Thiago Motta and ex-Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici.
