Atalanta have every reason to feel confident, because Paris Saint-Germain have never beaten an Italian club in the Champions League.

The teams were paired together in the quarter-final of the Champions League, which under the new Final Eight format, will be a one-off clash on neutral turf in Portugal.

It’s the first ever Champions League campaign for Atalanta, but history is on their side anyway.

It’s the first ever Champions League campaign for Atalanta, but history is on their side anyway.

That’s because PSG have never beaten an Italian team in the Champions League, losing both games in the 1994-95 semi-final against Milan, then drawing all four of the group matches with Milan in 2000-01 and Napoli in 2018-19.

There is also the very important fact that Ligue 1 was suspended in March and did not resume, so Paris Saint-Germain are completely lacking in match fitness.

They will have a Coupe de France Final with Saint-Etienne on July 24 and a Coupe de la Ligue Final with Olympique Lyonnais on July 31, but that’s all.

On the other hand, Atalanta have won all six of their Serie A games since the restart.
