Matteo Politano and Lorenzo Pellegrini have withdrawn from Roberto Mancini’s Italy camp due to injuries, forcing Roberto Mancini to call up Manolo Gabbiadini and Davide Frattesi.

Politano looked like he’d be departing the Campania capital this summer in a bid to find more playing time, with a move to Valencia looking possible right up until the transfer window closed.

Pellegrini has continued to play a leading role in Jose Mourinho’s Roma squad, despite the arrival of star forward Paulo Dybala.

As announced by Napoli, Politano has withdrawn from the Italy camp due to a sprained right ankle, an injury suffered in the 2-1 win over Milan on the weekend. He was assessed by the Azzurri’s medical staff and they decided it was safer to send him home rather than risk exasperating the issue.

Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini has also left Coverciano after he suffered a flexor problem in 1-0 loss to Atalanta on Sunday.
