“I came on towards the end when it was still 1-1, a difficult game against a difficult opponent, but we are very happy for us and our fans,” Pjanic told Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium.

“It’s never easy when you are behind in a game, but we keep fighting. Juventus are accustomed to winning and that means when things get difficult, we never lose our self-belief.

“In Rome you know the derby is important, but if you’re Juventus then you know the derby has to be won. We played well and got the full three points.”

Next week the Serie A leaders host Roma, the club Pjanic left in tense circumstances, as he activated a release clause in his contract.

“I am glad to be seeing so many old friends again. Roma have many champions and are a very strong side. Their Coach is excellent too and doing very well.

“I spent five wonderful years there, but it’s a game we intend to win.”

Tomorrow Juventus will also discover their Champions League opponents in the Round of 16 draw.

“There are no favourites in the tournament and I don’t see anyone in the draw who can frighten us. The important thing is to get there in good shape and with as few injuries as possible.”
