Former Milan and Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo expects “a balanced match” in the Coppa Italia final, but wants to see his friend Rino Gattuso lift the trophy.

The ex Italian international played for both teams, and is an official ambassador for tonight’s showdown at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I expect a balanced match,” Pirlo told Milan TV.

“A final never have favourites, even more so when you play at the end of the season. I hope it’s a good match.

“I expect a balanced match,” Pirlo told Milan TV.

“A final never have favourites, even more so when you play at the end of the season. I hope it’s a good match.

“Seeing Gattuso on the Milan bench has a beautiful effect on me, I’m happy with what he’s doing.

“He gave Milan their soul back, giving them a team spirit and and making the team play very well. A lot of the credit is his, and I hope tonight he can realise his dream of lifting the cup.

“Milan need to win trophies to start again, to restore enthusiasm and give credibility to the future not least for new arrivals.

“It’s a fundamental match to start the Gattuso cycle.”

Juve have won the domestic double for three seasons in a row, where can the Rossoneri hurt them.

“Every team has weak points. Juventus are the better equipped team, it’ll be up to Milan to prove they can match them on the pitch.

“It’s a special match for [Leonardo] Bonucci, it’s never easy to play against your former team, especially the first few games after you change shirt.”
