Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli isn’t keen to talk about the Scudetto – “maybe in March I can answer that question.”

The Aquile are currently joint-second in the Serie A table, two points behind city rivals Roma, and along with Juventus have the best record in the calendar year.

“The Scudetto? Maybe you’ve noticed, but I’m a bit short-sighted,” Pioli said in his Press conference ahead of the Atalanta match.

“I don’t look far ahead, only to the next game. Maybe in March I can answer that question.

“We have to improve our position, play the Lazio way and do that in every match. Right now the table is equal for all teams.

“There are a lot of games to go until the end of the season, we’ll only be satisfied when we win something, and I think it’s time to do that.”

Pioli then turned his attention to this week’s commitments, and doesn’t believe the Atalanta match will be crucial.

“Every win can be a turning point, but there are still a lot of games to go. Tomorrow’s game certainly gives us a great opportunity.

“We know it’ll be difficult, Atalanta will be tricky and aggressive, but we know what to do. Let’s not overdo it on the importance of tomorrow’s game though.

“Every game is important, I don’t think this is a decisive week for us. We want to push forward, we’ve suffered and gritted our teeth.

“We were like a boxer going to the corner, taking the blows, trying to stay standing and waiting to deliver the right-hook.

“Atalanta have good qualities, I don’t think they’re a team that will be fighting relegation, they’ve been well put-together and well-drilled.

“They’ll try to stifle our possession, and they’re very dangerous on set pieces, as well as being great down the wings with [Maxi] Moralez and [Alejandro] Gomez.

“Their forwards are good in the air, but we have to play our game with the right attitude and try to win the 50-50s.

“We’re approaching this game with great conviction.”
